The country's general staff confirmed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked a fuel depot in Yartsevo, in the Smolensk region. The depot, located about 60 kilometres northeast of Smolensk, was a key supply point for the Russian army involved in the conflict in Ukraine.
The attack occurred early Tuesday morning Eastern Time and was executed by the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces in collaboration with the Unmanned Systems Forces. The assault resulted in an explosion and fire, which led to significant smoke in the area. Ukraine's General Staff reported that storage tanks containing petroleum products caught fire. Earlier, Russian media reported that the attack was conducted using Ukrainian drones.
Attack on the depot in Yartsevo
Ukrainian drones launched an attack on the oil depot in Yartsevo, within the Smolensk region, igniting a fire. Russian authorities are addressing the situation and investigating the incident, while photos from the scene quickly surfaced on Ukrainian Telegram channels. The drones of the Ukrainian Security Service also targeted an ammunition depot at the Kadamovsky training ground, causing significant logistical difficulties for the Russians. This attack is part of Ukraine's larger strategy to weaken the opponent's combat capabilities.
The Ukrainian armed forces destroyed 40 tanker cars carrying fuel for the Russian army in the Zaporizhia region. The operation also included the destruction of railway tracks, disrupting deliveries from Crimea and complicating Russia's logistical capabilities. Ukraine's recent drone attacks are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at dismantling Russia's logistical infrastructure. These successes could significantly impact the operational capabilities of Russian forces conducting activities in Ukraine.
