UK rocked by violent riots after knife attack on young girls
Across the United Kingdom, a wave of violence is occurring due to the high-profile murder of several young girls by a knife-wielder with Rwandan roots. Several countries have issued warnings for travellers to the Isles.
The United Kingdom has been facing a series of violent riots for several days after, in Southport near Liverpool, a 17-year-old knife-wielder killed three young girls and wounded five other children.
The attacker was a British citizen with Rwandan roots, which caused anti-migration and far-right protesters to take to the streets, met by counter-protesters.
The country is experiencing violent clashes in numerous cities. More than 400 arrests have been made. Prime Minister Keir Starmer convened a COBRA meeting to develop an action plan.
Countries warn travellers
Some countries reacted immediately and issued warnings. The first was Malaysia, which urged its citizens in the United Kingdom to avoid areas affected by protests and to monitor the latest updates and heed local authorities' advice.
Similar warnings were issued by Nigeria, Switzerland, and Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Canada and Australia issued warnings for travellers to the United Kingdom to exercise a high degree of caution "due to the threat of terrorism."
