Carly Gregg allegedly killed her mother and shortly after took her phone to text her stepfather, asking, "When will you be home, honey?" In the US, the trial of the 15-year-old has started. The girl cried in court.

The trial of Carly Gregg, a teenager accused of murdering her mother, began unusually. The 15-year-old, dressed in a navy blue outfit, couldn't suppress nervous laughter while sitting on the defendant's bench. Later, however, tears flowed. Her lawyers, maintaining serious expressions, accompanied her on both sides.

Carly Gregg is on trial for the alleged shooting of her mother, Ashley Smylie, which took place in March when Carly was 14 years old.

The prosecution presented a recording showing Carly with a gun, and then gunshots are heard. The footage is chilling. It shows the teenager walking from the kitchen to another room, after which gunshots are heard.

Gregg shot her mother, stole her phone, and returned to the kitchen to text her stepfather. She asked in the message, "When will you be home, honey?" The teenager also played with two dogs.

When an audio recording was played in court, in which a shaken stepfather is heard calling the police, the 15-year-old cried.

Accused of killing her mother. Carly Gregg faces prison

Carly's defence relies on insanity as the main line of defense. An earlier plea deal proposal, which could have resulted in a 40-year prison sentence, was rejected by her.

In addition to the murder charge, Carly Gregg is also facing charges of attempted murder and evidence tampering.
