Nakajima revealed the brand's plans during an interview with "Automotive News Europe." He described the new engines as game-changers that would revolutionize the rules of modern automotive technology.
According to Nakajima, Toyota's new engines will be completely different from the currently used internal combustion engines in terms of efficiency and power supply. They are expected to feature high efficiency and small external dimensions while maintaining significant engine displacement.
The smaller engines will be 1.5 litres, and the larger ones will be 2.0 litres. This means that Toyota is unlikely to pursue downsizing. Instead, it plans to draw from technologies already used in hydrogen models.
Although Toyota will focus mainly on gasoline hybrids, there are plans for versions powered by hydrogen and synthetic fuels. Although the announcements sound almost incredible, Toyota is confident. According to Nakajima, there is still significant room for fun, suggesting engineering tricks and unconventional solutions.
If everything goes according to plan, the first cars using the new family of engines will hit the roads in 2027. However, we will learn the details much earlier.
