Tommy's top airplane tips: Sleep, shorts, and savvy hygiene tips

Travelling by airplane can be exciting and somewhat stressful, and comfort and safety are paramount for passengers. Popular online steward Tommy explains on TikTok why, among other things, we shouldn't travel by plane in shorts or sleep with our heads resting against the window.

Tiktoker Tommy, known as @tommycimato, primarily warns against falling asleep with your head leaning against the airplane window. According to him, it is a matter of hygiene - we don't know how many people have previously come into contact with the window surface, making this practice unhygienic.

According to his recommendations, avoiding direct contact with the plane's wall during rest is much safer.

Beware of airplane toilets

Another aspect the steward emphasizes is using a paper tissue or napkin when flushing the toilet in the airplane. He emphasizes that flush buttons and levers are highly contaminated with bacteria, so contact with them should be minimized.

Tommy also recommends staying hydrated during the flight and emphasizes the importance of hydration. He suggests consuming about 16 ounces (about 500 ml) of water per flight to maintain health and well-being during the journey.

The Tiktoker also addresses clothing, advising against wearing shorts. Just like with falling asleep against the window, wearing long pants can reduce the risk of contact with bacteria.

It's worth reporting feeling unwell to stewards

Finally, he reminds passengers of the role of stewards as support during the flight. He emphasizes that the cabin crew is ready to help in case of feeling unwell, offering food, water, or a sick bag. He convinces passengers not to hesitate to ask for help.

These practical tips will make airplane travel more comfortable and safe for many people.
