Shannen Doherty, best known for her roles in the TV series "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Charmed," died on Saturday, July 13th, as reported by her agent Leslie Sloane in a special statement published in "People."
"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease. The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace," reads the statement.
Years-long battle with illness
In 2015, Shannen Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer. After intensive treatment, the cancer went into remission but returned aggressively in 2019. In recent years, the actress reported metastasis to her brain and bones.
Despite the grim prognosis, Doherty was known for her steadfast fight for her health and life. She openly discussed the various stages of her treatment. Recently, in her podcast "Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty," she mentioned that another round of chemotherapy was imminent.
Turbulent private life
Aside from her illness, Doherty recently faced a challenging divorce from her third husband, Kurt Iswarienko. She also accused her husband of prolonging the separation to avoid paying alimony, as "People" magazine reported, which obtained court documents filed by the actress.
"It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me," her words were quoted.
