Walnuts are among the healthiest nuts. They are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins. Their season begins in early autumn, so it's worth munching on them.
How to remove the skins from walnuts?
Walnuts are also rich in vitamin B, which positively impacts the nervous system. Additionally, the act of munching helps reduce stress and tension headaches. When the jaw activity increases, even the tightest muscles relax and the pain eases. Therefore, it's a good idea to snack on walnuts or add them to your morning oatmeal. This way, you can calmly handle peeling off their bitter skins. However, it becomes problematic when you need a large quantity. In that case, you can use a simple trick.
Temperature helps
High heat will help remove the bitter skin. First, place the walnuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then, put the sheet in the oven preheated to 205°C. The nuts only need to bake for about 15 minutes. After this time, take them out and let them cool. Thanks to this trick, the bitter skin will easily peel off. Toasting the walnuts in a pan will also help remove the skin.
Look for 'Jacek' variety
When shopping, ensure that the walnuts are in uncracked shells. The shell protects against rancidity and drying out. It's worth asking the seller to crack open one or two walnuts and simply try them. The 'Jacek' variety is considered the best and largest.
