A washing machine is an appliance found in practically every home. It consumes a lot of electricity and water, which affects bills. However, there is a simple way to significantly lower expenses: just press one button.

Laundry piles up quickly, especially when there are children in the house. In such homes, the washing machine can be operated daily. Unfortunately, the device consumes a lot of electricity and water, which noticeably increases utility bills. In times when everyone is looking for ways to save, it's worth trying a certain simple trick with the washing machine.

Before you start washing, press one button

Modern washing machines have many useful functions, such as steam washing, anti-allergen, or eco-friendly ("eco"). The latter is often marked with a leaf symbol. In older models, it is located directly next to the dial. Manufacturers included it in the device because this program consumes significantly less water and electricity while still removing all dirt.

The "eco" mode lowers the temperature and lengthens the entire washing cycle. As a result, it changes the way the heater functions. This particular element consumes a lot of electricity. Studies show that compared to regular modes, this eco-friendly one reduces energy consumption by 38% and water consumption by about 33%.

Which program consumes the most electricity?

Towels, clothes, underwear, and children's clothing are just a few wardrobe items that should be washed at the highest possible temperature. Hot water removes dead skin cells and bacteria that could lead to skin diseases.

Such programs are effective but consume a lot of electricity. Experts recommend that other fabrics be washed at 30°C - 40°C (86°F - 104°F) and to avoid programs like "bedding," "wool," or "delicate." These are the ones that consume the most energy. If you want to be sure your laundry will be clean, pour a pack of baking soda into the compartment and replace fabric softener with vinegar. Each product has disinfecting properties and ensures that clothes don't fade.
