Russian submarines trapped in Black Sea as Ukraine tightens grip

Four Russian Kilo-class submarines recently caused fear in the Black Sea. After the Ukrainians sank one of them, "Rostov-on-Don," it became clear that it was only a matter of time before the remaining units ceased to be a threat. They currently cannot leave the Black Sea because Turkey is blocking the Bosporus Strait.

On Friday, during a missile attack on Crimea, the Ukrainians sank the Russian submarine "Rostov-on-Don." It is one of four such units operating in the Black Sea that can attack Ukraine with Kalibr missiles.

According to the Ukrainian service Defence Express, the successful attack on "Rostov-on-Don," which was undergoing repairs at the facility in Kilen Bay, Sevastopol, indicates that currently all Russian submarines in the Black Sea have been trapped.

The remaining three Russian submarines in the Black Sea cannot perform necessary repairs in Sevastopol due to the threat of a Ukrainian attack. Meanwhile, there is no other repair base on the Russian coast of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

These submarines also cannot leave the Black Sea. This is related to Turkey's blockade of the Bosporus Strait.

"Currently, all submarines in russia remain without the ability for full repair because they would need to be brought into the occupied Sevastopol under threat of attack. Therefore, disabling four russian submarines is just a matter of time," reads the publication from Defence Express.
