Russian company introduces foam-body drone at a security event
The Russian company "IRT" (Integral Robotic Technologies) presented a new reconnaissance drone, "IRT-Scout," at the international event "Comprehensive Security." This drone's main feature is its foam body.
The "IRT-Scout" drone can be launched by hand, simplifying its use in the field. The foam construction reduces production costs and makes repairs in field conditions easier. Russian media emphasize that this material makes the drone more economical and practical.
Technical specifications
The drone has an electric motor to reach speeds up to 90 km/h. Its range is 50 km, and its operating time on a single charge is about one hour. The drone can carry loads weighing up to 200 grams. Other technical details have not been disclosed.
Context and previous uses
Russia has previously used foam drones on the battlefield. This year, a kamikaze drone was observed from two aluminum tubes and a foam wing with a wingspan of about 2 metres.
Defense Express reported that the Russians showcased a new type of "drone mother" intended for FPV drones, with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities. It is still unclear how many drones this system can carry.
