Local inhabitants reported hearing explosions at the facility, preceded by the distinctive sound of drone activity at night.
The Governor of the Kaluga region, Vladislav Shapsha, communicated via his Telegram channel that the fire was quickly contained and had been put out. He confirmed that there were no casualties.
Shapsha admitted that they are currently assessing the extent of damage to infrastructure.
Recurring assault on the refinery
Despite reporting on various drone interceptions within Russia, the Russian Ministry of Defense did not include the incident in the Kaluga region in its announcement, as per BBC's findings. They confirmed the interception of five drones: three in Bryansk, one near Moscow, and one in Belgorod, but did not refer to the Kaluga region incident.
This incident marks another attack on the same refinery, following a previous assault on March 15. That attack also targeted the oil refining facilities, leading to a significant fire.
