Russia and US aim to rebuild trust in Riyadh talks
Vladimir Putin positively assessed the results of the negotiations between the Russian and American delegations in Riyadh. "The goal of the US-Russia meeting in Riyadh was to enhance mutual trust," the leader, as quoted by the Kremlin's RIA Novosti news agency, said.
Many of the reports provided by Russian media or government representatives are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the information war conducted by the Russian Federation.
"The most important thing in all of this, when it comes to solving all urgent problems, including resolving the Ukrainian crisis, is that without increasing the level of trust between Russia and the United States, it will simply be impossible to resolve many issues, including the crisis in Ukraine," stated Vladimir Putin after Tuesday's talks in Riyadh.
Putin argues it's about trust
Quoted by the Kremlin's RIA Novosti news agency, the Russian leader maintains that the overriding goal of the meeting in the capital of Saudi Arabia was "rebuilding trust" between Russia and the USA.
He attempts to argue that Kyiv's strong reaction to the negotiations between Russia and the United States is unwarranted. Additionally, he asserts that Russia does not meddle in the internal matters of the U.S. or the EU and insists that Europe has no valid reason to respond negatively to the meeting between Russian and American delegations.
Putin's conversation with Trump
The propaganda agency quoted Putin as saying that during a phone call, President Donald Trump assured him that the United States expects the negotiation process to involve both Russia and Ukraine. He emphasized that Ukraine is not being excluded from these discussions.
On Tuesday in Riyadh, the first meeting in years between the American and Russian delegations took place. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov agreed that teams will be formed to work towards the quickest possible resolution of the war in Ukraine. The meeting occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
