Pope Francis shows progress in hospital, plans remain uncertain
The Vatican announced that Pope Francis's health has slightly improved. The head of the Catholic Church has been in the hospital for a week.
"The clinical condition of the Holy Father is slightly improving," the statement released on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM ET said.
The Vatican reported that the Pope does not have a fever, and his hemodynamic parameters are stable. According to the statement, this means that the Pope's heart is responding well to the treatment used for bilateral pneumonia.
In the morning, the Pope received Holy Communion and continued working. Pope Francis, despite hospitalization, remains active and engaged in his duties, it was added.
There is currently no information on a possible return of the Pope to the Vatican. The decision depends on the further course of treatment. The Vatican has not yet provided an expected discharge date.
Pope visited by Giorgia Meloni
A few hours earlier, the President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, informed that Pope Francis is on the way to a full recovery.
The day before, a medical statement emphasized that tests showed slight improvement, especially in infection indicators. On Wednesday, the Pope was visited by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who after the meeting conveyed that the Pope is conscious and communicative.
