Steve Bannon ignites controversy with nazi salute at CPAC
“Fight, fight, fight!” shouted Steve Bannon at the conservative CPAC conference near Washington. The right-wing podcaster and former White House strategist then performed a Nazi salute. He then bowed his head and added, “Amen.”
A scandal unfolded at the national-conservative CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) in the USA.
On the first day, Steve Bannon, an American political advisor, journalist, and Donald Trump's 2016 campaign manager, asked the audience gathered in the hall whether they were ready to fight for the president, the republic, and the USA. From the podium, he urged everyone not to give up, because—as he stated—this is the only way to achieve victory.
Shocking behaviour at the convention
“We are not gonna quit, fight, fight, fight!” shouted Bannon, and then performed a Nazi salute. “Amen. God bless you. You are wonderful," he added.
Bannon also called for a third term for Trump and said that leaders like him appear only twice in history.
Joshua Reed Eakle, president of the organization Project Liberal, responded to the clip on X: “Nazism has officially taken over the GOP”.
“This is Trump's America,” noted the political group Really American on X.
Nick Fuentes, a national socialist, described both Elon Musk's earlier gesture and Bannon's current gesture as “Roman salutes.” Nevertheless, he called them “sick” and added, “It's starting to get a little uncomfortable even for a guy like me!”
“Bannon’s gesture was a fast flash of a stiff arm off to the side. The motion had no other obvious message than what seemed apparent,” comments “The Independent.”
Who is Steve Bannon?
Bannon is one of the creators of the “alt-right” movement in the United States and has been involved in promoting far-right ideas. After leaving the White House in 2017, he continued his political activities, supporting populist movements both in the USA and in Europe, as well as engaging in various media projects.
He is also controversial due to his statements and views, which often meet with criticism for spreading hatred and inciting social divisions.
