Record drone strikes paralyze Moscow airports amid ongoing conflict

The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that 158 Ukrainian drones were "intercepted and destroyed" overnight and early this morning. BBC writes that this is a record number. The attack paralyzed the capital's airports in Russia. The Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports were closed for several hours.

Due to the massive drone attack on Russia, the Federal Air Transport Agency suspended the operation of three capital airports, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky, to ensure the safety of civilian flights.

As stated in the communication, 43 aircraft flying to these airports were redirected to alternate airports due to restrictions on the use of airspace.

The department reported that 74 flights were delayed at the aforementioned airports.

As of 1:05 AM Eastern Time, all airports in the region are operating normally.

Massive attack on Russia

According to Radio Liberty and the Russian section of the BBC, Sunday's attack on Russia was the largest since the beginning of the full-scale war. The Ukrainian army has not commented on these reports at this time.

The drones targeted Russian power plants and refineries, mainly around Moscow and in the capital itself. It is currently known that fires broke out at the Konakovskaya State District Power Plant (north of Moscow), Kashira State District Power Plant (south of Moscow), and in the capital city itself: Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district (administrative district).

Despite multiple appeals from authorities and services, Russians massively uploaded recordings and photos of the ongoing attack on Moscow to the internet. The internet was flooded with dozens of videos showing drones heading toward the Russian capital.
