Pizza balls: The ultimate cheesy snack for any occasion
Knowing how to prepare pizza dough can benefit you in many different ways. I discovered this when I started serving my family pizza balls in addition to the traditional Italian pie. Dinner? A party snack? Use them however you like!

Everyone loves pizza, without a doubt. The fluffy dough, flavourful toppings, and cheese, lots of cheese – that's the recipe for a successful lunch, dinner, or night out. However, sometimes it's worth using these ingredients in another interesting way beyond the usual pizza. Pizza balls, which I've been preparing for some time now, perfectly demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.
Of course, the main challenge in preparing such a snack is making good pizza dough. Below, I've included the recipe I use myself and am always satisfied with. The rest of the ingredients are total improvisation. For me, there's one rule, and I've already mentioned it: It must have lots of cheese. Well, you can't deceive the heart and stomach.
Pizza balls – a snack for dinner or a party
Ingredients:
- 340 grams of flour (you can use type 450, but it’s best to find an Italian kind marked with the number 00),
- 1 teaspoon salt,
- ½ teaspoon sugar,
- 7 grams instant yeast,
- 250 millilitres warm water,
- 1 tablespoon olive oil.
Toppings:
- 255 grams mozzarella,
- 115 grams yellow cheese,
- 100 grams salami,
- 4 tablespoons butter,
- 1 clove garlic,
- salt,
- Provençal herbs,
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste,
- parsley.
Instructions:
- I start by mixing yeast with warm water and sugar. I combine the ready mixture with flour, salt, and olive oil.
- I kneaded the dough, formed it into a ball, and covered it with a cloth. I leave it for an hour in a warm place.
- During this time, I grate the cheese, chop the salami, and press the garlic clove. I mix everything in one bowl, add butter, and season with salt and herbs. I transfer it to a saucepan and heat everything on low burner power.
- I divide the ready pizza dough into smaller pieces and make flat cakes. I spread them with tomato paste and add the prepared filling.
- I seal them into balls and place them in an olive oil-greased springform pan. I bake for about 25 minutes at 175°C, then serve them with chopped parsley.
