The new Moldovan-British relationship will bring various benefits. Security is a key priority of the agreement signed on Wednesday between the countries.

The British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, emphasized Moldova's importance as a key partner in security. He highlighted the country's situation with significant pressure from the Kremlin.

The Moldova and United Kingdom agreement: Ensuring the safety of Chișinău

"Moldova is a vital security partner for the UK, which is why to reinforce their resilience against Russian aggression and to keep British streets safe, I am deepening cooperation on irregular migration and launching a new defence and security partnership," stated a representative of the British government.

The head of British diplomacy also pointed out the "growing Russian hybrid threats" that Moldova faces. "With Ukraine next door, Moldovans are constantly reminded of Russia’s oppression, imperialism and aggression," Lammy added.

He also mentioned that Chișinău is facing many adversities. He stressed that Maia Sandu was re-elected as President of Moldova despite "unprecedented Kremlin interference."

The British minister reminded of the consequences of the war in Ukraine, which forced millions of Ukrainian civilians to flee, including thousands to Moldova, where over 50,000 Ukrainian children currently reside.
