Kenyan police have detained a suspect in exceptionally brutal murders. The man has confessed to the crimes. The case shocked the public on Friday when the dismembered remains of 42 women were found in a garbage dump in Nairobi.

On Friday, July 12, police discovered the bodies of 42 dismembered women in the Mukuru slums in Nairobi. Kenyan society was shocked and accused the police of covering up the case.

Law enforcement quickly sprang into action and by Monday, July 15, had detained a suspect in the case. The 33-year-old was arrested near a bar.

The suspect in the Makuwu Kwa Njenga (slums in Nairobi, Kenya's capital - ed.) murders has been arrested, Kenyan police stated on platform X.

During questioning, the man confessed to all the murders. He told the police that his first victim was his wife. He strangled her in 2022, then dismembered her body and dumped it in a garbage dump. Since then his method has not changed. He killed, dismembered the bodies, and discarded them in the local garbage dump.

In the man's apartment, the police found, among other things, cell phones, bags, a machete, ropes, and gloves, as well as many items likely belonging to the murdered women. The officers called for anyone with information about this case to contact them.

The Kenyan police oversight authority IPOA announced it would investigate whether the police were involved in the deaths of the victims or did not prevent them sufficiently. The dismembered bodies of the victims were found less than 100 metres from a police station.

Since the beginning of the year, protests have been intensifying in Kenya. Social sentiment and trust in the police are at an exceptionally low level. Across the country, people are striking against the increasing number of murders of women. The recent discoveries have deepened citizens' distrust of the authorities and law enforcement.
