The Oscar winner is set to play He-Man's main adversary in the upcoming film adaptation of the cult animated series, joining a star-studded cast.
Jared Leto has been cast as Skeletor in the forthcoming live-action adaptation of He-Man's adventures. The Oscar-winning actor, celebrated for his performances in "House of Gucci" and "Dallas Buyers Club," will portray He-Man/Prince Adam's arch-nemesis, a role to be filled by Nicholas Galitzine. Director Travis Knight, recognized for "Bumblebee," has gathered an impressive cast, including Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops. Also joining them are Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms.
Jared Leto to play Skeletor in "Masters of the Universe"
Not everyone knows that the He-Man franchise began in 1982 with Mattel's action figures, accompanied by mini-comics. The animated series "He-Man, the Masters of the Universe" only started airing a year later. This fantasy universe is expected to feature many characters, with Skeletor, played by Leto, heavily "enhanced" with CGI and motion capture. This method will differ from the first live-action adaptation of 1987, where Frank Langella played Skeletor using traditional makeup.
Jared Leto enjoys playing villains
Skeletor's role will add to Jared Leto's repertoire of stylized villains. He embarked on this theme in his career with the role of Joker in "Suicide Squad" (2016), continuing with a CEO character in "Blade Runner 2049" (2017), and the anti-hero Morbius in 2022. The actor is also slated to star in Disney's "Tron: Ares," alongside Evan Peters and Greta Lee.
"Masters of the Universe" is produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films. The film's premiere is scheduled for June 5, 2026. Although the full details of the plot and production are still being kept under wraps, fans can anticipate an exciting and visually stunning portrayal of the iconic characters and the full power of Castle Grayskull.
