Zelensky's Washington visit ignites political backlash
Elon Musk criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after his meeting with former US President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. A Trump advisor stated that the Ukrainian president "destroyed himself in the eyes of American people."
Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, commented on platform X about the Friday meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump at the White House.
Musk's entry was a response to a post by Thomas Massie, a Republican member of the House of Representatives, who suggested that Zelensky's presidency might be at risk. "Is this the end of Zelensky’s presidency? He hitched his wagon to Biden and the deep state. They lost and now he doesn’t seem to be playing his cards well," Massie wrote.
"Zelensky destroyed himself in the eyes of American people" - Musk replied.
Reactions of American politicians
Senator Lindsey Graham from the Republican Party praised Trump for a "masterclass on how to stand up for America." He also expressed disappointment that the planned deal on Ukrainian mineral resources did not come to fruition. Meanwhile, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized Zelensky for his lack of respect toward Trump, emphasizing how much aid the United States has provided to Ukraine.
Representatives of the Democratic Party had a different opinion. They criticized Trump for his stance towards Zelensky, accusing him of ties with Russia. Ken Martin, the head of the Democratic National Committee, wrote that Trump aligned himself with the wrong colours, adding a Russian flag to his post.
Democratic criticism of Trump
Ben Rhodes, former Deputy National Security Advisor of the United States, stated that Trump dislikes Zelensky because he is a democratically elected leader fighting against Russia. Jason Crow, a Democratic congressman, assessed that Trump "has turned the Oval Office into a Russian propaganda machine."
Zelensky's meeting with Trump sparked numerous controversies among American politicians, highlighting differences in the approach to relations with Ukraine and Russia.
