In a statement, Iranian air defence stated that Israel attacked military targets in the provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam.

Iranian officials said that explosions heard across the country before dawn on Saturday "were related to air defences deployed in several areas around Tehran and the country," according to the state news agency IRNA.

The semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that Iran is prepared to respond to "aggression" from Israel. This will be met with a "proportional reaction," it reported early Saturday morning, referring to Israel's retaliatory strike.

"There is no doubt that Israel will face a proportional reaction for any action it takes," the Iranian agency reported, quoting an anonymous source.

The Tasnim agency is considered a press organ of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, part of the Iranian armed forces.

Attack by Israel on Iran

Israel conducted a series of strikes on military targets in Iran during the night from Friday to Saturday, describing it as a response to multiple attacks from Iran and its allies. On October 1, Iran launched approximately 200 ballistic missiles at Israel, most of which were shot down. Israel had promised a strong retaliation.

John Brennan, who is currently a senior analyst for national security and intelligence, claims that Iran's capabilities for retaliation are limited following the recent missile attacks that Iran launched against Israel (on just October 1, approximately 200 missiles were launched toward Tel Aviv).
