This year is exceptionally rich in horror and thriller movies. Fans of the genre can already add a new film featuring an Oscar-winning actress to their must-watch list.

The action of the horror film "Never Let Go" takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. A mother lives with her two sons in a cabin in a dense forest. Some unnamed Evil lurks outside. To protect themselves, they must stay connected, literally!

"As an evil takes over the world beyond their front doorstep, the only protection for a mother (Berry) and her twin sons is their house and their family’s protective bond. Needing to stay connected at all times – even tethering themselves with ropes – they cling to one another, urging each other to never let go," reads the distributor’s description.

Alexandre Aja, who has directed thrillers like "The Hills Have Eyes" and "Crawl," is at the helm of "Never Let Go." The same studio that produced Netflix's hit "Stranger Things" worked on this film.

The lead role is played by Halle Berry, an Oscar winner for Best Actress in "Monster's Ball."

- This movie reminds me how I would protect my children in this life. We often say I would take a bullet for my kids. Would you take a knife for your kids? What would you do to protect your children? - says the actress about "Don't Stray."

2024: the year of horror films

This genre is usually regarded as B-movie material. However, it's clear that audiences enthusiastically welcome the latest "terrifying" releases. We recently wrote about an 11-minute standing ovation for "The Substance" starring Demi Moore at Cannes. Although the film "Barbarians" was released two years ago, it's currently trending among Canadian viewers.

As for upcoming releases, there has been a buzz about a low-budget adult version of Winnie the Pooh's adventures (where Pooh transforms into a bloodthirsty beast). Recently, "The Spider" hit theatres. In a similar vein, there is "Sting." However, Sydney Sweeney generated the most buzz in "The Immaculate," suggesting that "Never Let Go" will also capture considerable attention.
