Heathers belong to the heath family. They are found throughout Europe, as well as in some regions of Asia and Africa. They are very easy to grow. They reward you with dense, pink-lilac or purple flowers when properly cared for. They are a true decoration for any balcony or garden. How can you extend their life? Discover the recipe for a homemade nutrient solution for heathers.

How to care for heathers?

Heather is a perennial plant. Despite this, it sometimes cannot survive even a year. The most common reason is improper plant care. How do you care for heathers? Provide them with the right soil. They thrive best in light, peaty, well-draining soil with an acidic pH. After purchasing, it is worth repotting them into a larger pot with drainage to prevent root waterlogging.

The positioning is also important. Heathers should be placed in a warm, wind-protected place. They should be grown outdoors, as they are unsuitable for indoor keeping and will wilt after several days.

The most important procedure is watering. How often should you water heathers? It depends on the time of year. In late summer, a small amount of water should be used daily. In the fall, water every 3-4 days. The soil should always be slightly moist.

Add to heathers. They will bloom until late fall

Depending on the species, heathers can delight the eye even until November. To keep them blooming as long as possible, prepare this simple nutrient solution from ingredients you most likely already have at home.

You need soft and settled water (e.g., rainwater) and a bit of lemon juice. Take a 1.5-litre bottle and fill it with water. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice and mix thoroughly. Water the heathers with this prepared nutrient solution. Repeat the procedure once every two weeks, and the plant will bloom until November. This is thanks to the citric acid, which deeply nourishes the heathers and extends their longevity.
