Less than 100 days remain until Election Day in the United States. The election campaign is in full swing, and it is a historic one.
Just a day after Joe Biden withdrew from the race for the White House, it was clear that Kamala Harris was heading for a record in terms of fundraising for her campaign. On July 22nd, the media reported that donations to Harris exceeded CAD 69 million. Shortly after, it was revealed that she managed to raise CAD 110 million in just 24 hours, and the tally was still climbing.
On Monday, July 29th, it was announced that in seven days, Democrats gathered CAD 270 million for the campaign. It was emphasized that this was a huge, record-breaking collection and a historical achievement - still unofficial but specific - by the Democratic Party's presidential candidate.
Harris' campaign team reported that the majority of the amount - as much as 66 percent - was contributed by individuals who, for the first time in this election cycle, decided to support a presidential candidate. They did so after Joe Biden announced that he was stepping down, passing the baton to Kamala Harris.
American media also noted that over 170,000 volunteers joined the Democratic Party's campaign, who, through various methods - phone calls, in-person, etc. - will encourage American citizens to vote for the current Vice President.
In June, when Joe Biden was still fighting for re-election, Americans contributed CAD 169 million to his campaign. That month, the Democrats' account had CAD 319 million.
Donald Trump also has reasons to be satisfied. As reported by "The New York Times," in July, the Republican candidate raised as much as CAD 185 million.
It is a huge sum but significantly smaller than the CAD 270 million the Harris campaign gathered after voters welcomed her candidacy with great enthusiasm, the American daily emphasizes.
It adds that the Republican campaign account has a total of CAD 435 million.
"It makes July one of the Trump team’s strongest fund-raising months to date, just off the sum raised in May, when Mr. Trump’s supporters responded to his felony conviction with an outpouring of donations totalling $141 million (Cad 187 million), recalls "The New York Times."
Let us remind: at the end of May, Donald Trump was found guilty in a case involving the hush money payment to adult actress Stormy Daniels.
