Video game adaptations have a bad reputation. And it's no wonder, as most film productions inspired by computer hits are best avoided. Unfortunately, there haven't been many exceptions. However, when HBO picked up the game "The Last of Us," it was evident from the start that it could be a groundbreaking production. And so it was.
"The Last of Us" was hailed as one of the most significant television events of the past year. On Rotten Tomatoes, "The Last of Us" garnered as much as 96 percent positive reviews from critics and 88 percent from viewers. The series received three Golden Globe nominations, eight Emmy awards, and the Saturn Award for Best Horror Series of 2023.
Critics emphasized that "The Last of Us" is not a production aimed only at video game enthusiasts. Peter Travers of "ABC News" wrote: "Don't worry if you're not a gamer, this show will hit you hard. Over nine hours, the series takes side trips that enable the filmmakers to depart from the game and deepen the world-building. "The Last of Us" is a triumph of ferocity and feeling that grabs you and won't let go. More please, and soon."
Viewer interest in "The Last of Us" was enormous. In the United States, there were even significant problems with watching the premiere episode. On the day of the premiere, users encountered errors on their screens. DownDetector stated that "HBO Max couldn't fully handle the server load."
Premiere clips from the second season of "The Last of Us" appeared in a video showcasing the most exciting HBO TV productions for the coming months. The exact release date of the new episodes of "The Last of Us" is not yet known, but it is known that the series will appear on HBO and the Max platform next year.
