Have you ever sent an SMS message with a typo, a blunder, or mixed up the recipients? Google is preparing something to help you avoid the unpleasant consequences, at least partially. An edit option for sent messages is being tested in Google Messages.

Google Messages is adding a new feature in its beta version. As Android Police reported, development on this feature has been underway since at least February, but it only recently came to attention. This feature allows users to edit SMS messages after sending them. It has been made available to a select group of beta testers, and details about plans for a wider rollout are still unknown.

Google Messages, the default app for handling SMS and RCS messages on Android devices, may soon offer a highly requested feature: the ability to edit messages after they've been sent. This capability has not been available in the app until now.

Android Police, quoting a Twitter user named Jhowkira2000, mentioned that the feature is accessible on specific devices through AssembleDebug. He said he had access to the feature several months ago, indicating that Google has been developing it for quite some time.

Messages can be edited for up to 15 minutes after being sent. The editing process is straightforward. Press and hold the sent message and tap the pencil icon. You'll then be able to revise the message content and confirm the changes.

Currently, there is no information about when the feature will be released to the general public. However, since it has reached the beta version, it is expected to be available to more users soon. Sent messages can be edited multiple times, and the edited message content will include a note indicating that it has been edited. The person you're chatting with will also be able to see the message content before the edit.
