The Google Messages app, the default platform for managing SMS and RCS on Android devices, may soon gain a feature that will undoubtedly interest users. The option to edit already sent messages is a novelty we could only dream about in the context of this tool so far.
The new feature of editing SMS messages after they are sent is introduced in the beta version of the Google Messages app. According to information published by Android Police, work on the feature has been ongoing since February, but it was only noticed recently. A limited number of beta testers are using this option, and the exact plans for its further distribution are not yet determined.
Android Police reported, citing statements made by a Twitter user with the pseudonym Jhowkira2000, that the new option is being tested on selected devices using AssembleDebug. According to his information, some users accessed this feature a few months ago, indicating that Google has been working on it longer.
How will SMS editing work?
Editing messages will be possible 15 minutes after they're sent. The process is intuitive—simply hold the sent message longer and press the pencil symbol to enter editing mode. After making changes, they must be accepted.
No details have been revealed about when the new feature will be available to a broader circle of users. However, considering the option is already in beta, it should soon become available to more users. It is worth adding that messages can be edited multiple times, and information that the content has changed will appear underneath them. Additionally, the recipient can review the original version of the message before the edit.
