"Harry Potter" is a gigantic brand—one of the largest in pop culture franchises—remaining relevant and at the forefront for over 20 years. Throughout these decades, all seven books have been adapted into films; the play "The Cursed Child" has been performed on Broadway and the West End; and the "Fantastic Beasts" series, a spin-off of the original story, was released. Additionally, there are games, guides, textbooks, and countless other items from the universe.
In 2023, the Harry Potter craze surged again, thanks to the game "Hogwarts Legacy," developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game was launched on PC, PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox. The action is set in the 19th century, and players take on the role of a Hogwarts student with the ability to wield ancient magic, tasked with stopping villains from causing chaos in the wizarding world.
The game's storyline could be stronger, but its atmosphere is incomparable. Exploring the world offers tremendous fun, mainly due to the familiar locations and magical aura, which are undoubtedly the biggest advantages of "Hogwarts Legacy."
The game continues to sell well—a year after its release, over 30 million copies have been sold. Fans will likely be delighted to know that although the title will not receive any new downloadable content, only bonus content (approximately 10 to 15 hours of new gameplay), work is underway on a sequel—the second part of "Hogwarts Legacy."
The "Hogwarts Legacy" sequel will be connected with the new "Harry Potter" series
A new game about quidditch, a seven-season "Harry Potter" series—the first part of which is expected to premiere on MAX in 2026—and the second part of "Hogwarts Legacy" is sure to excite all Potterheads. David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, stated in an interview with "Variety" that the studio prioritizes this title.
"We have known for some time that fans are looking for more things in this world, and so we’re spending a lot of time thinking about that. Our insights tell us that there are not huge distinctions between a younger version of a fan and an older version of a fan. They’re just deep ‘Harry Potter’ fans, and we try to build authentic experiences to delight them," Haddad added.
The president of Warner Bros. also revealed that, in addition to "Hogwarts Legacy," several mobile games are also in development and will tie into the MAX series. What does this realistically mean? The action will be moved about 100 years into the future and will likely occur during Harry's school years or perhaps his parents' era—the Marauders' era. This is undoubtedly good news for those who did not enjoy battling goblins.
