The number of victims who died under the rubble of a collapsed stairwell in one of the residential buildings in Belgorod, Russia, has risen. The Russians assert that the building partially collapsed due to a Ukrainian attack.

Many reports from Russian media or government officials contain elements of propaganda. They are part of the informational warfare led by the Russian Federation.

The latest information from Ria Novosti indicates that a total of 9 bodies were recovered from the debris. Additionally, 20 individuals, including two children—a one-and-a-half-month-old infant and a 16-year-old boy—were reported injured.

Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, immediately blamed Ukraine, stating that the collapse of the entire stairwell of the 10-story building was a direct hit by a missile.

However, the Russian Ministry of Defence maintains it was not a missile that struck the building, but its fragments, after air defence forces had previously shot down a Ukrainian Tochka-U missile.

Social media platforms were flooded with photos and videos capturing the moment of the impact.

Russians bombard their own cities

British military intelligence recently detailed how, on May 4, a Russian plane inadvertently dropped a FAB-500 bomb—a large explosive device—on a residential area in Belgorod. Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, confirmed the explosion and damage on Razdobarkina Street without specifying the cause of the incident. The explosion resulted in damage to 30 houses and 10 cars, and five people needing hospitalization, showcasing the bomb's devastating capability, as noted by the British department.

Such events demonstrate that Russia still struggles with accurately deploying its bombs to strike intended targets, leading to destructive and fatal consequences for its population.

In October 2022, a Su-34 airplane crashed into a residential building in Yeysk due to an engine fire shortly after takeoff. The pilots managed to eject safely.

This disaster resulted in 13 deaths and 19 injuries.
