Eco‑friendly tips for tackling stubborn bathroom clogs
If you have a clogged drain in the bathroom, before reaching for store-bought "chemicals," try one of these home methods. They are much more environmentally friendly and gentle on your wallet.
The accumulation of dirt, fluid residues, and hair can lead to problems with water flow and unpleasant odours. Fortunately, there are methods to unclog the drain quickly.
How to unclog a blocked drain? Try home remedies
Drains in the bathroom or kitchen can become clogged due to accumulated debris. In a sink, the problem usually lies in food scraps, coffee grounds, seeds, and grease. Hair, cosmetic residue, and lime from hard water are often culprits in the shower drain. Stores offer many products for unclogging pipes. However, before spending money, let's see how the methods below work.
Prepare half a cup of baking soda and half a cup of vinegar. First, pour the baking soda into the drain, then pour vinegar over it. When you combine these two ingredients, a rapid chemical reaction will occur, allowing the pipes to be unclogged and the accumulated residue to vanish. This method also neutralizes the bad odours lingering in the bathroom due to the dirt in the drain. Let these ingredients work for fifteen minutes, then rinse with hot water.
Another equally effective method is a mixture of water and regular table salt. Dissolve a few tablespoons of salt in about 500 millilitres of hot water and pour the mixture into the drain. Again, let the mixture sit for fifteen minutes, then rinse everything with running water.
