Palestinian authority halts Al Jazeera amid uprising fears
The Palestinian Authority has suspended the operations of the Al Jazeera channel, accusing it of interfering in internal affairs. This decision follows allegations of misinformation and incitement to rebellion, against the backdrop of the upcoming inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the United States.
The Palestinian Authority announced the suspension of the Qatari channel Al Jazeera, accusing it of meddling in Palestine's internal affairs. The decision was made on Wednesday evening, leading to the halting of broadcasting and the activities of the station's journalists.
The decision by the Palestinian Authority is a response to allegations of misinformation and incitement to rebellion that were allegedly being spread by Al Jazeera. The official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that the suspension would continue until the station's legal status is resolved.
Al Jazeera has criticized the authorities' decision, claiming it is an attempt to obscure the conflict over control of the West Bank, where Tel Aviv is illegally (according to international law) settling its Israeli citizens.
Preparations for Trump's inauguration
In recent weeks, the Palestinian Authority forces have been conducting an offensive against Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militias, which claim to be more effective than the PA in fighting Israel.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas wants the militants to surrender and hand over their weapons to the authorities. "There will be no tolerance for this rogue group that operates outside the law," said General Anwar Rajab, spokesperson for the Palestinian security forces.
The Palestinian Authority is stepping up efforts to neutralize Palestinian militants before Donald Trump's inauguration. The goal, as reported by the AFP agency, is to demonstrate the capability to control the Gaza Strip after the conclusion of the war with Israel. Approximately 10 people have already died as a result of these clashes.
