- According to a report by the country's government on Tuesday, at least 2,200 buildings were destroyed in two strong earthquakes that struck Cuba on Sunday. The catastrophe also led to landslides and damage to the energy infrastructure. Most of the damaged buildings are located in the Granma and Santiago de Cuba provinces, in the southeast of the island, where the tremors were most strongly felt.
- Intense rainfall led to numerous floods in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. According to the Colombian civil defence services, due to the accumulated water in the capital area, dozens of streets, including main city arteries, are impassable. There was also a significant traffic light failure, which intensified traffic chaos in the city. City authorities stated that repairing the warning system is hindered by heavy rains and water accumulating on the streets.
- Due to the intensifying "Jennings Creek" fire on the border of New York and New Jersey, train service was suspended on the section between New York and New Haven, part of one of the most important railway lines in the USA. The "New York Times" reported that some areas remain too difficult to access for vehicles involved in firefighting and rescue operations. On Tuesday afternoon, the fire was - as estimated - 10 per cent contained in New York and 10 per cent in New Jersey. One employee of the New York State Parks team died.
