Drugs worth 5 million euros wash ashore on Lanzarote

A package floating in the Atlantic Ocean caught the attention of a passerby walking on the beach on the Spanish island of Lanzarote. It turned out to contain 35 kilograms of drugs.
The mysterious shipment never reached its intended recipient. A random person retrieved it from the water off the coast of Lanzarote, between Famara and La Graciosa. Upon discovering the sea find's contents, the finder immediately notified the local police.
A package worth 5 million euros retrieved from the waters
Officers secured the package until representatives of the civil guard arrived. According to the information provided in the statement, the shipment contained a total of 35 kilograms of cocaine. The drugs are valued at about 5 million euros.
This isn't the first instance of a package containing significant amounts of narcotics being discovered around the Spanish island. Over recent years, packages of marijuana and cocaine have been repeatedly retrieved from the waters around La Graciosa.
A pivotal stop on the smuggling route
Lanzarote acts as a key transit point for drug smugglers transporting goods from South America to Africa and Europe.
In recent years, the island's volcanic landscape and unique natural beauty have not only attracted tourists but have also caught the attention of drug traffickers.
