Drone strike ignites Kazan gas depot, sends plumes skyward
A Russian gas depot in Kazan was attacked. Residents report that several explosions were heard, followed by a massive fire.
Residents of Kazan are sounding the alarm on social media about a huge fire near the local chemical plants. Kazanorgsintez is one of the largest Russian chemical companies and the country's biggest producer of polyethylene.
According to local media reports, the attack targeted not the plant itself, but the liquefied gas depot located next to it.
On Telegram, the Mash channel reports that three tankers are burning on the premises of the company.
More photos and videos are appearing on social media, showing the massive fire. Plumes of black smoke are visible from afar.
The drone strike that led to the fire was confirmed by the region's head, Rustam Minnichanow. "I visited the place of the fire caused by the drone attack. Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze," he told local media. The Russian official assures that "there are no casualties or significant damage."
Ukraine has once again attacked a fuel depot
This is not the only drone attack on Russia that occurred last night. During the night from Monday to Tuesday, explosions were also heard in the sky over Engels in the Saratov region of Russia. A fuel warehouse that had been burning for several days was attacked again.
The governor of the region, Roman Busargin, reported that the drone attacks caused damage to an industrial enterprise in Engels. It is there that a strategic aviation base of the Russians is located, which has been attacked multiple times before by Ukrainians.
