Delta flight flips on Toronto tarmac amid turbulent landing
On Monday, February 17, there was an airplane accident involving Delta Airlines at Pearson Airport in Toronto. More materials are surfacing online. The latest footage shows the moment the aircraft collided with the tarmac.
On Monday, a serious accident occurred on the tarmac at Pearson Airport in Toronto. A Delta Airlines passenger plane flipped onto its back during landing. Consequently, 18 out of 80 people on board (76 passengers and four crew members) were injured.
New footage of the accident
More materials from Canada continue to appear online. One such video was posted on platform X. The footage clearly shows the plane approaching for landing and then flipping. The aircraft is quickly engulfed in flames, and plumes of smoke appear within moments.
The plane shown in the footage is a Mitsubishi CRJ-900LR. Delta Airlines has been using these aircraft since 2010. It is now necessary to determine what specifically went wrong to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The cause of the accident is unknown
Fire Chief Todd Aitken reported that the runway the plane landed on was dry and there were no recorded crosswinds. However, The Canadian Press cited recordings from the control tower that included permission for landing and information on possible air turbulence caused by a previously landing plane. Up until the moment of landing, there was no further communication recorded between the crew and the tower.
This is not the only aviation accident in North America in recent weeks. Recall that at the end of January, a Bombardier CRJ700 collided with a military Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter.
