Corvette ZR1 redefines American supercars with 1,080 hp V8 engine

Americans have excelled in the competition, proving that it's still possible to create an extremely powerful supercar without hybrid system support.

1,080 horsepower of power, 827 pound-feet of maximum torque, 5.5 litres of displacement, and eight cylinders in a V configuration – that’s a brief description of the LT7 engine, which defines the new Corvette ZR1 and is the most powerful production V8 from the USA in history.

It’s an evolution of the LT6 unit with a redesigned head, forged pistons, and two large turbochargers. Despite the forced induction, the new motor revs up to 8,000 rpm, providing more than decent performance. The sprint to 100 km/h takes less than 3 seconds, and the top speed is 346 km/h. It will come in handy on the straights, but the car won't disappoint in the turns either.

This is all thanks to the ZTK package, which includes a significant splitter on the front bumper, a large rear wing, and a host of small aerodynamic improvements resulting in impressive downforce. Chevrolet boasts values surpassing the Lamborghini Huracán in the STO version.

On the track, you will also benefit from Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, carbon brakes with discs of 400 millimetres (front) and 390 millimetres (rear), as well as lightweight carbon fibre wheels.

As if that wasn't enough, the ZR1 can be purchased in both Coupe and Convertible versions, and production will not be limited. It’s simply another version that joins the official lineup. Nothing remains but to wait for the prices. However, it is already suspected that the cost-to-performance ratio will be attractive.
