Onboard the airplane, which was scheduled to depart from Rome to Catania, was a cat named Luna. The pet's strange movements and restless behaviour caught the attention of other passengers and flight crew. It turned out that the cat wanted to inform about a shocking discovery.

On an Italian airline flight, the cat Luna was legally inside her carrier while a passenger was illegally smuggling an iguana. According to the newspaper "Corriere della Sera," the cat sensed the presence of the "exotic friend" hidden by the passenger under a red blouse.

Cat thwarted illegal smuggling

A large plush toy – a monkey, which the young woman held on her lap to conceal the live animal under her clothes, was a peculiar ally of the iguana smuggled by one of the passengers.

However, the cat's strange movements and restless, even aggressive, behaviour caught the attention of her owners, other passengers, and the crew. At that point, they began to observe the suspicious passenger closely, and then a sizable lizard appeared before everyone's eyes.

After this discovery, the woman’s journey with the iguana ended quickly. At the Roman airport, the police immediately intervened, escorting the reptile's owner off the airplane.

Many questions

The Italian press emphasized that the cat proved more effective than the most advanced security systems, from those in the USA to those in Italy. It turns out that the woman arrived in the Eternal City from Los Angeles. The big mystery, therefore, is how it was possible to smuggle the iguana, which went undetected by any devices.

An investigation is currently being conducted to answer all questions. The tourist can expect to be fined. "Meanwhile, the cat deserves a reward, at least a snack," reads the Italian newspaper.
