According to reports from the British daily The Sun, the video the captain sent to a younger sailor serving on the same submarine led to his disciplinary dismissal.
The crew members claimed that the captain and the sailor had a physical relationship during the voyage. A Royal Navy source stated that physical acts on board were not the subject of the investigation, and naval commanders accused the submarine captain of sharing explicit video materials.
The officer was immediately suspended and dismissed as part of the "zero-tolerance policy for unacceptable behaviour."
The officer was in a high position. He was authorized to do top-secret work and even personally met Princess Anne. He was also awarded the Order of the British Empire for secret operations.
In a statement to The Sun, a Royal Navy representative stated that unacceptable behaviour is treated with the utmost seriousness. It was added that anyone found guilty will be held accountable, regardless of rank or status. The captain's dismissal underscores zero tolerance for sexually inappropriate behaviour in the British armed forces.
The Royal Navy has four submarines armed with nuclear weapons, and one vessel is always at sea, ready to launch against the enemies of the United Kingdom in response to a nuclear attack.
