Homemade black elderberry syrup is a natural way to combat the common cold and flu. It is worth taking it at the first sign of symptoms to prevent the illness from developing. Its effectiveness has been scientifically confirmed. Research from the Medical Center in Jerusalem published in 2001 confirms that black elderberry can shorten the duration of a cold to four days.

However, it is crucial to consume this syrup quickly. For the remedy to be effective, it is essential to take it within 48 hours of being infected with the virus, from the moment we start feeling the first symptoms of the illness.

Black elderberry effectively combats inflammation and, due to a large amount of antioxidants, protects the body from free radicals, reducing cancer risk. This preparation also helps with common ailments. The syrup also has fever-reducing and warming properties, clears the upper respiratory tract, and helps with sinus pain.

Additionally, black elderberry syrup improves the condition of our skin and significantly slows down the aging process. It also supports our heart by lowering the risk of atherosclerosis. How can you prepare such an elixir?

How to prepare black elderberry syrup?

The recipe is very simple. Put one cup of fresh, dried, or frozen black elderberries in a pot. Add 500 millilitres of water and two tablespoons of grated fresh ginger. Bring the mixture to a boil, then simmer on low heat for 20 minutes. After cooling, strain through cheesecloth, add one cup of natural honey and one cup (250 millilitres) of 80-proof alcohol. Mix thoroughly and pour the elixir into small bottles.

The bottles can be stored in two ways: pasteurized or in the refrigerator. Drink one tablespoon of syrup several times a day for at least five days or prophylactically one tablespoon a day.
