Biden withdrew in late July, following a defeat in a debate with Trump and due to considerable pressure from his own circle. Kamala Harris became the new Democratic Party candidate, who eventually lost to Trump.

Now Biden is regretting his decision. The outgoing president believes, with hindsight, that he had a real chance for reelection.

At the same time, according to "The Washington Post," Biden admits that he may have made mistakes that caused his ratings to drop in favour of Trump.

Could Harris have won? They blame Biden

Meanwhile, in the post-election debate on the reasons for Kamala Harris's defeat, it is suggested that she had too little time to organize an effective election campaign. Her supporters partially blame Biden for this, as he decided to run for reelection, going back on a promise made in 2020.

- Biden ran on the promise that he was going to be a transitional president, and in effect, have one term before handing it off to another generation. I think his running again broke that concept - said Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal in an interview with "The Washington Post."
