A CNN source familiar with the conversation states that the presidential rivals spoke by phone after the assassination attempt on Saturday evening at 8:00 PM Eastern Time. It was described as "good and short" as well as "respectful."
One of the senior White House officials told CNN that "the president wanted to speak directly with his rival." Biden was said to have reiterated his statement "that there is no place or tolerance for political violence and assured Trump that he is directing agencies to carry out a full investigation," it reads.
The station also confirmed the conversation with two other White House officials, but they declined to provide details of the head of state's conversation with the former president.
Failed assassination attempt on Trump. Rivals spoke for the first time in years
At the same time, the station reminds us that the politicians have not spoken in years. They didn't even have a conversation during the TV debate organized by CNN. The current and former president communicated only through their representatives.
The situation changed only after the failed assassination attempt on the Republican candidate. As a result, Trump was injured in the ear. However, the former president has already been discharged from the hospital.
Law enforcement confirmed that there are two fatalities: a member of the audience and the shooter. Two more people were seriously injured. The FBI reported that it "identified the person involved in the assassination attempt."
