The Belgian Ministry of Defence confirmed that on October 11, additional security measures were implemented across several military bases in the country due to reports of possible sabotage and surveillance threats.
Increased threat level
As a result, the security level was raised from basic Alpha to Bravo, which is the second of four possible protection levels. Each level involves the implementation of appropriate precautions.
The increased threat level entails additional security measures, particularly for the security personnel in various barracks. However, due to security considerations, detailed information regarding the steps taken has not been disclosed.
Special units in the Baltic Sea
It is not only Belgium that is preparing for possible sabotage actions. On Friday, "RBC-Ukraine" reported that due to the threat of sabotage by forces specializing in counterterrorism, German GSG 9 units will be deployed in the Baltic Sea. These units will be responsible for protecting the underwater infrastructure in the Baltic and North Seas.
