Sponge cake with apples: A simple cake for fall

Not only pumpkin, but also plum and apple cakes are sweet symbols of autumn. In addition to popular treats like apple pie, plum cake with crumble, or American-style pumpkin pie, there are also desserts that are easy to prepare and deliver wonderful results.

An example of such a dessert is sponge cake with apples. Everyone is familiar with sponge cake, and most can make it without hesitation. A cake enriched with apple slices will become more moist, while still retaining its fluffiness. Its soft interior will soak up the apple flavour and aroma. Sprinkle it all with cinnamon and it's ready.

Sponge cake with apples: Recipe

Ingredients:            

  • 5 eggs,
  • 1 cup of sugar,
  • 1 cup of flour,
  • 4 tablespoons of oil,
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder,
  • 3 apples,
  • Powdered sugar and cinnamon for sprinkling.

Instructions:          

  1. Beat the egg whites stiff with the sugar. Then, add the yolks, oil, and sifted flour with baking powder. Mix everything together gently, so that the foam doesn't deflate too much.
  2. Pour the batter into a springform pan lined with parchment paper at the bottom.
  3. Wash and peel the apples, then cut them in half and slice thinly.
  4. Dip the apple slices into the batter.
  5. Bake the prepared cake for 40 minutes at 180°C.
  6. Allow the sponge cake to cool, then sprinkle with a mixture of powdered sugar and cinnamon.
