The Paris Olympics are approaching quickly. They will officially start on Friday, July 26, and will last until Sunday, August 11. For all athletes, this is the most important event in their lives. For four years, they do everything to be in the best shape and win as many medals as possible. There is nothing worse than suffering an injury right before the Olympics. For an athlete, this is often the end of the world.

An injury just before the Olympics is often hard to accept. Field hockey player Matthew Dawson from Australia had no intention of breaking down because of it. He was so eager to fly to Paris to perform in front of fans that he decided he needed to cut off a piece of his finger. Instead of healing the injury he had sustained, he got rid of the problem. All this to represent his country on the field in the capital of France.

Shocking news has reached us from Australia. It turns out that Matthew Dawson, a field hockey player, decided to cut off a piece of his finger. All because he sustained an injury that would have prevented him from flying to Paris and competing in the Olympics. This would have been terrible for him as he represented Australia in both Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro. In the capital of Japan, he and his teammates won a silver medal.

"I made a conscious decision after consulting with a plastic surgeon. The decision was made not just because of the Olympics but also for future life. My best solution was to cut off the top part of my finger. There are many other problems and more important things happening in other people's lives than losing a finger, so I am very happy that it's just a small piece of my finger," Matthew Dawson said in an interview with the media.

Field hockey coach Colin Batch told journalists that he is proud of his athlete. According to him, he proved how much he loves his country and how much he cares about the good performance of the entire national team.
