The Argentina national team is in the United States, participating in the 2024 Copa America tournament. They secured all the points in three group-stage matches and advanced to the quarterfinals from the top spot in the standings.
The team, led by Lionel Messi, aims to triumph in the third consecutive tournament. 2021 Argentina was the best in Copa America, and in 2022, they won the World Cup. During this time, several superstitions emerged in the Albicelestes team, which were believed to bring luck on their path to trophies.
One of these superstitions involves bringing along a Chucky doll. It has been travelling with the Argentina players since 2021, and a photo has surfaced online confirming that it will accompany the team to the United States in 2024.
Juan Cruz, responsible for preparing the team's kits, is credited with bringing the doll to the team. He received the item, mainly associated with horror movies, from his son, and it is believed to bring luck to the Argentinians. So far, the world champions have no reason to doubt the doll's power.
Among the superstitions of the Argentina players are eating caramel candies before matches and Lionel Messi's daily meeting with Rodrigo De Paul for yerba at the same time—9:30 AM EST in Lionel Messi's room.
Argentina does not yet know their opponent in the Copa America quarterfinals. Regardless, the world champion is the tournament favourite. Thus, Lionel Messi might add yet another success in international football.
