Actress Shannen Doherty, 53, loses brave battle with cancer
On July 13, at the age of 53, Shannen Doherty passed away. The actress had been battling cancer for many years. News of her death saddened thousands of fans, as well as her closest ones. Chris Cortazzo, the artist's closest friend, decided to bid farewell to the star in this way.

Shannen Doherty gained international fame thanks to series such as "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Charmed". Although she ended her career a few years ago, fans still remember the star. In recent years, she focused on her health and fighting malignant breast cancer. Doherty spoke openly about her illness, including metastases to her bones and brain. Her manager, Leslie Sloan, announced the actress’s death news.
"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. (...) The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace," stated the announcement.
Her friend was with her till the end
Following the official news of Doherty's death, her closest friend Christopher Cortazzo decided to post an emotional message on Instagram and a collage of photos and recordings taken over the years.
"My beloved friend and heart. What memories and laughter we have shared through this journey. You were my protector, my best friend and my divine wife. My heart is shattered. I love you forever my sweet dear friend. Your Christopher," wrote Cortazzo.
Chris Cortazzo was seen by photographers with Doherty a few hours before her death. The friends were walking the streets of Miami, talking and shopping.
Doherty grappled with the disease for years
In 2015, Shannen Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer. After initial treatments, the disease subsided but unfortunately returned in 2019. In the following years, the actress shared information about the spread of the cancer to her brain and bones.
Despite her severe illness, Doherty became a symbol of steadfast determination in fighting for health and life. She spoke openly about her treatment, and recently, on her podcast "Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty," she mentioned another upcoming chemotherapy session.
