We sometimes need a quick but tasty meal to satisfy the whole family’s appetite. In such moments, a tried and true recipe for a delicious casserole, which will disappear from the plates in no time, is a lifesaver. Simple to prepare and rich in flavour, I guarantee all household members will surely enjoy this dinner.

Recipe for a delicious potato casserole

Do you know those days when you didn’t have the energy for fancy cooking? And on top of that, a hungry family is demanding dinner?

Don’t worry! I have the perfect solution for you – a quick and delicious potato casserole that will delight all household members. It is effortless to prepare, unbelievably filling, and aromatic.

Bottom of the casserole:

              
  • 0.5 kg potatoes,
  • 70 grams butter,
  • salt,
  • black pepper,
  • oregano,
  • smoked paprika (optional).

Top of the casserole:

              
  • 200 grams mushrooms,
  • 200 grams bacon,
  • 200 grams cheese,
  • 200 grams onions,
  • 12% sour cream,
  • 1 egg.

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius. Grease a baking dish with butter, approximately 19x28 centimetres.
  2. Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly. Arrange them in rows at the bottom of the dish and add salt.
  3. Clean and slice the mushrooms. Spread them evenly over the potatoes. Slice the onions into feathers and place them on the mushrooms. Add the sliced bacon.
  4. Mix the sour cream with the egg in a bowl and season with salt and pepper. Pour the mixture over the layer of potatoes.
  5. Arrange another layer of potato slices and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Grate the cheese on a coarse grater and sprinkle it over the casserole. Add oregano and smoked paprika (optional).
  7. Bake the casserole for 25 minutes at 190 degrees Celsius.
  8. After baking, remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, optionally sprinkled with fresh parsley.

Additional tips:

          
  • You can add other vegetables to the casserole, such as peppers or broccoli.
  • Instead of bacon, you can use ham or sausage.
  • You can add grated cheddar cheese or Parmesan to the sour cream.
  • You can serve the casserole with a salad or coleslaw.
