Washington announces school closures
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), over 4 million people have received warnings of blizzard conditions in parts of Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri.
Travelling on roads in Kentucky and Indiana is also hazardous. At Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, all departures and arrivals have been canceled in the state of Kentucky.
Washington, Baltimore, and Philadelphia are among the major cities preparing for extreme snowy and icy conditions expected in the coming days. Washington has announced school closures. In some parts of Virginia, projected snowfall is expected to exceed 12 inches.
Problems in the Southern states
Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi are dealing with storms and severe cold, with temperatures residents in some southern areas are not accustomed to. In certain regions of Mississippi, a tornado warning was in effect for part of Sunday.
According to the power distribution company, Poweroutage.US, about 80,000 customers in the South and Midwest have been left without power. Approximately 30,000 of these are in Missouri, 18,000 in Texas, and over 10,500 in Louisiana, Kentucky, and Illinois.
