Crêpe shock under the Eiffel: Tourist's viral warning
Mark Roberts, an American visiting Paris, tried the famous French crêpes under the Eiffel Tower. Although they were delicious, he quickly regretted his decision and now warns other tourists against buying food in this location. Here's what he discovered after eating the crêpes.
During a walk under the illuminated Eiffel Tower, the well-known American TikToker Mark noticed a stall selling crêpes. Although the price of 22 CAD seemed high, he was tempted by a crêpe with Nutella, strawberries, and bananas.
In a TikTok recording, he acknowledged that it was expensive but looked incredible and tasted delicious.
He found a bench a bit away from the tower and the spot where he bought the crêpes, sat down and peacefully enjoyed his "exclusive" dish.
A man sneaked with bags
The tourist quickly regretted his choice. Sitting on the bench finishing his evening meal, he noticed the man who had prepared his crêpes earlier.
The vendor was seen carrying large plastic bags filled with crêpe ingredients. To Mark's astonishment, the man glanced around to ensure no one was watching, approached a sewer grate, opened it, and placed the items inside. Reflecting on the moment, the tourist noted that he had finished his snack before fully grasping what had occurred.
It's nothing unusual in Paris
After returning to the hotel, Mark checked online and discovered that the practice of storing food in sewers is not unusual in Paris. Since driving into tourist-crowded areas is heavily restricted, street food vendors don’t want to carry heavy ingredients, they often use these "storage" spaces. The next day, they retrieve the goods and prepare more meals.
Mark's video on TikTok garnered nearly 24 million views and sparked a wave of comments. "The more I learn about Paris, the more shocked I am," wrote one user. "Don’t people know that food near landmarks is a tourist trap almost everywhere?" commented another.
Many users confirmed they had heard of similar cases and warned against purchasing from street vendors near the Eiffel Tower.
The story highlights the risks of buying street food in popular tourist spots. Tourists visiting Paris should be cautious and choose reputable dining establishments.
