Ukrainians' optimism wanes as future uncertainty grows

In a study conducted periodically by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, the negative attitude of Ukrainians toward the future of their country is becoming more noticeable. There has been a significant decrease in the number of people who believe, for instance, that in 10 years, Ukraine will be a prosperous country belonging to the European Union.

As "Rzeczpospolita" now analyzes, the percentage of these people is gradually decreasing - in 2023, it was 73% of respondents, and in the latest survey conducted in December 2024 - 57%.

The attitudes of Ukrainians are increasingly changing

Respondents were also asked whether they believe that in this timeframe, Ukraine will be struggling with an economy destroyed by warfare. In 2022, only 5% expressed such a concern, and two years later, it is now 28%.

Respondents also shared their opinions on whether Ukraine will gradually overcome adversities and move towards a cohesive society expressing different political views. In this aspect, the number of indications fell from December 2023 to December 2024 from 69% to 53%.

Meanwhile, the number of people believing that adversities will escalate, and there might be a split among the Ukrainian people, increased from 25% to 33%.
